DC's Legends of Tomorrow Trailer Review

Considering it’s not set to begin production until June and scheduled to premiere in the mid-season of next year, no one was expecting The CW to present any kind of footage from its upcoming Flash/Arrow spin-off, Legends of Tomorrow, during its upfront presentation today. So, that’s partly why the trailer released this morning is even more impressive than expected… which was pretty impressive to begin with.



A time travel series starring a variety of supporting cast members from both of The CW’s current DC series (as well as some new entrants), Legends of Tomorrow is the most Power Rangers thing to exist in prime -time since the original debut of Saban’s institution. From giant robot feet to “team-work,” Legends of Tomorrow is certainly making some bold promises in what amounts to a sizzle reel that was shot over an extra two weeks that were added to the production schedule of The Flash at the end of the season.



Jokes aside, however, Legends of Tomorrow looks to be taking the DC franchise into a very intriguing, Doctor Who like direction in 2016, and it has to do with more than just the time-travel elements. The series has a lot of the lightheadedness contained within Flash, but is also expanding into a much grander science fiction territory than previously seen on either series – meta-humans or no meta-humans. Legends of Tomorrow, much like The Avengers, doesn’t feel like the cash grab some may have feared. It actually feels like a natural progression to the ever growing universe set to also include an animated series on CW Seed next season in the form of Vixen.
